We decided to clean up our Eagle library and post the SFE Eagle Library for public use. This way you don't have to re-invent the wheel when creating schematic parts and footprints for our various devices. We can't guarantee your PCB will work if you use our library, but at least you'll have a couple engineers at SFE crying with you when the coasters come in from BatchPCB.
SFEがEagle用ライブラリを公開しました。点数は133点と多く、いろいろと使い出がありそうな部品が多そうですので、これはとても嬉しいです。SFEはArduinoやWiringも販売しているのですが、同時にOpen Circuitsというウェブサイトも運営しています。Eagleは、非商用であれば基板サイズやレイヤー数の制限つきで無償で利用できるということで、オープンソース的なプロジェクトで活用されています。
SFEは、いろいろと面白いガジェットを次々と販売しているわけですが、こうした活動は同じ部品のライブラリをあちこちで作ってしまうのを避けるという意味でとても効果的だと思うのです。ではビジネス的なメリットは？というとなかなか直結はしないと思うのですが、SFEの評価に対してプラスに働くことは間違いありません。また、これを使った新しい製品の企画が提案されてくるかもしれません。
オープンソースでハードウェアを開発した場合、どうやって頒布するかが大きな問題になるのですが、SFEのようなディストリビュータは一つの有効な回答なのではないでしょうか。今後も引き続き注目です。
