No more serial ports with the USB Board of Education! A Mini-B USB cable is included with the board so it's ready to go right out of the package. The new Board of Education USB programming board (Rev. A) allows you to connect with the USB ports on your desktop or laptop. The remaining features of the BOE-USB are shared with the BOE-Serial version.

最初にGoRobotics.netの記事を読んだときには、Basic StampがUSBでの接続に対応したのかと勘違いしました。しかし、実際にはBoard of EducationにUSB接続対応版が出たということでした。回路図、および拡大写真を見るとわかりますが、USB接続部分はこの手の用途で超メジャーなFTDIのFT232BMです。何点かの外付け部品が必要なチップですが、最近ではチップ自体が安くなりましたので、RS232C接続バージョンと同じお値段というのは嬉しいところですよね。このBoard of EducationをはじめとするParallaxの製品は、いろいろと使い勝手について考えられていて参考になります。
